Previously
A deadly virus affecting both organics and robotics swept the northern sectors of the Galaxy, sparking a war between the afflicted and the remaining factions. After nearly a year of defensive battles and co-ordinated operations, the war finally ended at the Battle of Ruin. The end of the war saw increased relations between the GSU, Imperium and Santori as they all agreed on a two year ceasefire to mend the damages caused by the crisis.

After these two years the factions signed the Santori Accords, an agreement proclaiming their united efforts to uphold Celestial law, including the protection of innocent life in case of another galactic threat. Following this meeting the Highrock Clans decided to join the Santori Protectorate, expanding their territory by almost double.

Galactic Date
Whilst each planet has their own personal Dates and Times, most of them adhere to the Galactic Standard Calendar when communicating with eachother.

Current Events
The Reich, a returning faction of magic-haters, resurface and initiate a purge of the planet Ordriey, destroying it entirely in the process. This event has made all of the Major Factions uneasy, even though each of them has bigger concerns of their own. Not only are there issues for these powers to deal with, but more factions are rising from the ashes of the Helix War, populating the galaxy once again.

Meanwhile, the Celestial Architect Sam'anar has discovered a way to reverse large parts of the Convergence, sending back many of the planets it had brought into the galaxy. Whilst this move has saved many from unwanted threats, it has also shifted the layout of the galaxy drastically. Because of this, new star-charts have been drawn out with Hyperlanes, allowing them to show the quickest and safest routes between planets.

A medium-sized industrial station rested on the surface of a moon. While it looked like your typical station to drop off and pick up goods, it also held several recreational areas such as a spa, a nightclub, a few stores, and even several courts for sports like tennis and basketball. Spacefarers would often come here to either unwind after a hard day's work or conduct business. It's perimeter had an inkling of blaster turrets and guarding it in case of a pirate incursion, but fortunately those incidents were few and far between.

Among the visitors in need of some R&R was a bounty hunter named Jagos Morelli who had just completed another bounty and was now standing outside of a fast food joint looking to satiate his hunger.

He had a small frigate up in the hangar bay that was currently being repaired and refueled by the workers. His crew was in charge of protecting it, so that left him free to ease him of stress however way he pleased.

The fast food joint was a popular one, inside was almost a hundred or so spacefarers tightly packed between small seats and tables as they stuff their faces with various foods both known and unknown to Jagos. Varied species from across the stars were present here,Human,Elvish even some Varanus shipping merchants.

Just before he entered he saw two uniformed men and two Varanidae in the street heading, the Red scaled Varanus wore something akin to an naval uniform as he turned to the other Green scaled Varanus as he picked up the other's clawed hands. Jagos could see that the green one was imprisoned, but with a blink of an eye the cuffs fell to the floor and with a motion of his head the officer and his two men left the reptilian behind, passing Jagos he could recognize that these were men from the Imperial Starfleet, the Imperials glanced at Jagos before turning away as they walked to the hangar bay.

The reptilian they left behind stood still but began to limp forward, but soon that limp turned into a fall and the reptilian remained motionless against the floor of the corridor.

Well, now this was a bit of a shock to Jagos as he stared at the downed Varanus in the corridor. Military officers would usually escort their prisoners to a prison complex, but to leave one on the floor as such was definitely an oddity. Many concerned civilians began to crowd around the reptile while several men pursued the officers who left their charge behind.

Jagos considered chasing after them, but this downed reptile was a higher priority at the moment. Whether it was a criminal or not, he needed to see if it was alright. He walked over and pushed his way through the crowd to the center. There, an Elven woman was kneeling beside him with a bottle of water hovering toward the Varanus's mouth. Jagos hesitated for a moment when he saw her up close, not out of spite, but fear. A few seconds later he placed a hand on the lizard's head to check it's temperature and asked, "Are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere?"

The Elven woman seemed distraught but as Jagos arrived, placing his hand on the horned head of the reptilian she pointed out the bruise-marks that were littered around soft spots in it's scales, there were small cuts across the right side of it's face. Dried blots of blood was visible across the dark-green scales of it's head with the creme-coloured softer scales of it's neck and lower jaw had visible bruising caused by heavy punishment.

Jagos hand was still against it's head,he could feel the faint heat against it's scales.

"Urgh...." It weakly sighed, raising it's head from the floor as it shifted itself to sit on the floor. It's horned head drunkingly and slowly shook from side to side,it's eyes became more rounded as it regained it's senses.

Still on the floor it looked at the elf and then to Jagos.

"Where am I?"

The damaged look of the Varanus's face told Jagos that something had gone down. The two officers that abandoned the lizard and left him lying on the ground uncuffed implied that the situation was fishy. The Elven woman frantically unscrewed the cap of her water bottle and held it out to the bruised victim in the hopes that it'd drink from it.

Jagos glanced around the crowd and turned back to the Varanus to answer it's question, "You were being escorted through this corridor when the guys leading you through left you behind. I saw several men go after them but, it isn't like an Imperial or anyone working for law enforcement to leave their prisoner uncuffed and lying in the middle of the floor."

He gazed in the direction of the hangar bay where the officers had gone and indignantly shook his head. "And here I was about to enjoy some good fast food," he thought to himself.

The reptilian turned to the elf and gently took the bottle from her soft ashen-skinned hands and began to down it in three gulps followed by a heaving cough. He bowed his head to the elf and thanked her.

It was then that the reptilian realized he was [at least in the sense towards other races] stripped of his clothing and gear down to his bare scales, most notably the lack of a thermal chestplate meant that he was extremely vulnerable to the outside world,if it wasn't for the fact that this space station had some warmth to it that blew through the air ducts of the corridor,he was certain that he might have gone into shock.

He lifted his head as Jagos mentioned Imperial officers, that was when it hit him again....The battle....The explosion....It was all a blur, the fact that the Imperial troops left him here makes him wonder as to how his reputation has eroded of the past few years of his self exile. He was more surprised that the Imperial forces had not killed him outright.

"It's quite the difficult story....But worry not about it Zodarrin-Ka." He says as he slowly lumbers towards his feet turning to the elf once more. "Fair ashen one I thank you for the water." He returns the empty bottle to her.

"Human.....For my wounds to heal I require food....It's not my place to beg for me to accompany you and share in a meal but I swear I shall repay you in turn." He says bowing his horned head, bringing it back up to lock his rounded eyes to Jagos.

"Food to heal eh?" Jagos wondered aloud as the Elf nervously nodded at the Varanus and took several steps back. He admittedly wasn't too familiar with Varanian physiology, but if this reptilian species' healing factor indeed worked like that, then who was he to say no to its request, not that he intended to refuse anyway.

Jagos raised his hands to the Varanus and said, "Wait here."

He turned and headed into the fast food restaurant. Technology had come a long way throughout the course of history, and it was especially prevalent in the agriculture industry. Several geniuses at some period in time discovered a way to whip up food almost instantly, and Jagos had to thank them for that. It was also thanks to them that the lines were often short, and as luck would have it, a man was just leaving the counter with his order.

Jagos reached the counter and said to the clerk behind the counter, "I'll have a hamburger and a large steak."

"No drink?" the clerk asked. "Not this time ma'am," Jagos replied.

The woman nodded and strolled over to a nearby device. She grabbed a pair of buns, a raw patty, and a raw steak and placed them inside the device. Several buttons are pressed and there is a faint beeping sound. She opened the door and takes out a freshly ready hamburger and a well-cooked steak. These edibles are inserted into two separate bags which are then loaded into a larger bag that she hands to Jagos.

"That'll be 180 credits sir," the clerk replied. "Won't be a problem," Jagos said as he paid up and moved toward the exit. The steak was for the reptile and the hamburger was for himself.

Back out into the corridor, the concerned crowd began to part as a floating stretcher being pushed by a small hovering medical droid approaches the Varanus.

The reptilian was uneasy as the crowd began to grow around him,he kept his eyes out for the human who promised him food while the elf remained close.

These people and their kindness was something the reptilian had forgotten, several years of wandering alone in the galaxy with the heavy burden of his past mistakes would not help ease the pain of his self-exile. Stripped down to his scales with no weapon besides claw and fang to defend himself he would naturally be defensive and expect death to loom across many corners,yet.....Nothing came besides the curious and helpful eyes of the locals. As Jagos came into view, medical droids came to provide aid to the unknown reptilian.

The sight of the mechanical droid triggered a memory in his mind,he thought back to his own machine...His data sphere.....The events that caused the blot in his memory....Then his heart stopped as he came to the realization of what he had lost. The reptilian moved forward pushing past the medical droid that wanted to examine him,the cuts on his face still slowly dripping with warm crimson blood as he faced Jagos.

"Human." He says as his eyes fall upon the bags containing food. "I must ask one more thing....Do you have an ship?"

The crowd looks on in surprise and shock as the Varanus ignores the medical aid and comes up to Jagos.

Jagos takes out the cooked steak and offers it to the injured reptile saying, "Yeah, I have a ship. It's in the hangar bay undergoing repairs and is being refueled at the moment."

The medical droid stares at the Varanus as if it is expecting it to climb onto the stretcher. Although most robots weren't programmed to feel emotions, the droid would probably be displaying annoyance and impatience right now if it had any. A man wearing goggles attempts to pat the Varanus on its back and say, "Uhhh...sir. Medical is waiting to take you to the clinic."

"The clinic may not be needed," Jagos says as he waits for the Varanus to take the steak.

The reptilian turns around to grin at the goggled man then back towards the droid doing his best to banish his hatred and anger for something as lifeless as the droid.

Taking the steak,he places it between a mouth of serrated teeth, chomping down on one section of it as he began to walk back towards Jagos. "I appreciate your concern.....But these wounds are nothing compared to some of the wounds I encounter....These will heal in a day, being submitted to your medical care would just waste my time.....Time of which another life hangs in the balance for." He turns his horned head towards Jagos, the reptilian shifted his posture from a hunched position now standing around 6.8 feet, twisting his head down to meet Jago's eyes.

"Human.....I thank you for you aid.....You and the elf have saved me and for that I owe you my life.....But I ask one more favor from you and this one will not be without reward....I need you to transport me to Orion Station at the southern edge of the Imperial Sector, once I reach this station you will be paid for the cost of fuel and half of the credits I have stored there which should be to the amount around 25,000."

The crowd began to disperse. The man with the goggles gave the Varanus a look that was both grim and confusing before he goes on his way. The elf produced a tiny smile and she too departed from the area. Soon all that was left was the droid, the reptilian, and Jagos himself.

Jagos pondered on this offer for a moment. He only just got here to stock up and have some fast food and now he was being asked to act as a chaperone for a Varanus that he just met. Then again, 25,000 credits did sound like a nice reward for what was basically an escort mission. That, and there weren't any other bounties that nabbed his attention at the moment, not that he and his crew were desperate for money right now. Also, as the old saying goes, "Everyone could always use more money."

He looked up to his client and replied, "Sure, I'll see to it that you safely get to Orion Station. Follow me."

Jagos led the way to the hangar bay, but before they enter he turned to the Varanus and asked, "By the way, what's your name?"

"Oh" The reptilian hesitated as he slowly continued to bite down on the steak until nothing remained.

He wasn't keen on revealing his name especially since he knew nothing about this human and the foggy memory of the events leading up to him being dumped on this station by Imperial forces. He did not have many friends outside the few Varanus circles he knew, his occupation of being a rather notorious bounty hunter did give him the merit of being disliked by those across the galaxy with prices on their heads. He wondered and decided that he had little time to coax the intentions of this human.....If he was one sent to end his life so be it.....As long as he could deliver the message to Orion....To the Freelancer.

"My apologies." He says stepping back to bow his head. "My name is Kaiyan Vivar." He raises his head. "Yours?"

Jagos nodded to Kaiyan and gestured to himself, "Jagos Morelli, it's nice to meet you Kaiyan. I hope we don't run into too much trouble on this trip to the station."

He remembered his most recent bounty that he completed and how he and his crew narrowly escaped the vicious pirates that sought to end their lives. The galaxy was vast, but he would be foolish to ignore the possibility that the pirates may be searching for them.

In the hangar bay are a multitude of ships undergoing various processes. Some were unloading their cargo, some were being repaired, and others were being refueled. Workers move about tirelessly performing their tasks.

Jagos spotted his ship in the fifth landing pad to the left and pointed to it. It was a Warthog Class Light Frigate with the name, "REBEL SCORCHER" on the side. "That's my ship right there," he explained to Kaiyan as a robotic crane arm was just pulling away from it to perform repair work on a larger frigate.

As he designated his ship, he keeps a sharp eye for the Imperial officers that abandoned the Varanus from before.

__________

Inside the cockpit of the Rebel Scorcher, engineer Jean Fournier was wiping down the glass windshield when she spotted Jagos standing at the entrance into the hangar bay alongside a reptilian being. "Well, he's returned, and it looks like he's brought a friend," she muttered.

"Jagos Morelli" Kaiyan repeated as he followed Jagos to the hangar bay,as Jagos revealed his ship to be the "Rebel Scorcher" an strange name considering the events of his own homespace.

The bay itself was busy as ships poured in and out,the constant hum of cranes loading and unloading goods from across the galaxy while refueling ships to continue the tireless journey. It was often in times like this that Kaiyan wondered how different things would be if he had the choice so many of his kin have in choosing their caste. To earn his credits in the toil of commerce rather then from the bloodied hands of his contractors.

They arrived at the entrance of the ship and Kaiyan couldn't help but remark it's light weaponry. He turned to Jagos and inquisitively asked "Nice ship, what profession do you practice human?" Thoughts turning back to his own ship being nothing more then an wreck in the void of space.

Next to the cockpit of the ship, a door slid open and a ramp extendes outward towards the two. "I'm a bounty hunter. I just completed a recent bounty not too long ago," Jagos explained as the ramp touched the hangar floor in front of them.

He proceeded up the ramp and said to Kaiyan, "Most of my crew is nice. Just be careful of Nev. He...has a rather uncouth attitude."

At the top of the ramp he is greeted by the Rebel Scorcher's second engineer Ivan Navarro, a stout man with a dark brown bowl cut and a thick goatee. "How was the celebration?" he asked with a welcoming grin.

"Had to cut it short, got an escort job we need to complete for my new friend here," Jagos responded as he motioned to Kaiyan. Ivan gave Kaiyan a puzzled look and whispered to Jagos, "He looks like he just got out of a bar fight."

"Try to keep that stuff to yourself," Jagos muttered, not wanting to create a poor first impression for his client. "How's the ship?"

"Repairs are done. Fuel levels are almost topped off," said Ivan.

Jagos smiled at the news and waited for Kaiyan to enter his ship with him.

Kaiyan noted Jagos's words, ignoring the others as he followed him into the ship.

The interior was quite compact with a locked door to his left and what seemed to be a cooking area and some sort of elevator while to his right led to what he assumed to be the cockpit area. The room itself was decorated in grey and beige and took on a square-like shape in form,a rather lifeless....Dull but practical decorum that in a way was contrasted to the embellishments and deep rooted colorization that was commonplace in the old vessels of the Empire. He noted that there was similarities between the practical and dull nature of the ship to his own that faded away with his years of self-imposed exile.

The steel floor was cold under the scales of his feet as he was reminded about the chill of space.

"This vessel does have heat regulation correct?" He would ask instinctively as he felt vulnerable without his Thermal plate. "The coldness of space would not bold well for my health." He added as he followed Jagos further into the ship.

"Yeah, this ship has heat regulation. Don't all ships have that nowadays?" Jagos replied to Kaiyan. This was more of a friendly note than a rude response.

A door at the opposite end of the room slides open when Jagos gets close enough to it, and Kaiyan can see a gray corridor that has two doors on the right side. The closest one holds a bathroom, and the second houses a small bedroom that belongs to Jean, one of the ship's two engineers.

Down the corridor is a right turn where Kaiyan would find a set of stairs leading down into the engine room and two doors, one on the right and another straight ahead if he elected to go down there at some point.

Jagos stood in the doorway and stretched his arms out to say, "This is the crew quarters where we eat and chat. Though with a five member crew doing both simultaneously is a rare occurrence."

Just then, Jean stepped into the room alongside Ivan. Jean had brown hair that was wrapped in a ponytail and had a soft, curious face. Her laser pistol strapped to her waist along with her OWS-5 Shock Mace.

She eyed the Varanus with interest for a short period of time before she turned her attention to Jagos and said, "The cockpit has been cleaned while you were away. I expected you to be gone longer."

Jagos shrugged and said, "Change of plans. We're doing an escort mission for the client here. We have to see to it that he safely makes it to Orion Station."

"And what will we get out of this?" Ivan asked as he folded his arms. "A substantial amount of credits. Once we're fueled up we shall immediately make our way to the station," Jagos explained.

Ivan disappeared down the hall and anyone with sharp hearing could hear him mumble, "And here I was hoping to spend time in this station's sauna."

Jean studied Kaiyan up and down before she concluded, "You look like your day's been quite rough."

It is said out of concern for Kaiyan's well-being. Jean then grinned and added, "Lucky for you, we have a medic on board our vessel."

"You would be surprised" Kaiyan adds following Jago's into the grey corridor.

He took note of the rooms on the ship, the restrooms and quarters, the engine room and another he noted. The ship air smelled stale from air recyclers,a sign that this crew has traveled for some time.He expected that this bounty hunter has been doing well for himself considering the size of his crew and the overall maintenance of the vessel.

Lost in thought he almost walked into a figure that stepped into the room followed by another. One was female bearing arms somewhat unfamiliar to the Varanus, there was a spark of curiosity in her eyes something that was not uncommon for him in the more Southern parts of the galaxy where the influence and appearance of his own race dims. The female reminded him of another....One he lost dearly and never truly recovered from.

He unknowingly grins softly towards Jean as thoughts repeated in his mind,so lost in thought that he barely acknowledged the passing man that mumbled under his breath.

"You look like your day's been quite rough." He heard her say as his mind returned to the ship and his surroundings.

She grinned and mentioned that the ship had a medic much to his luck.

The reptilian grinned once more, turning his gaze to the cuts and bruises that was beginning to slowly heal but otherwise remain visible and open. He turned his gaze back to Jean to argue of his well-being but her curious face and concern reminded him all too well of his loss.

The reptilian sighs. "Very well,I'll pay a visit to your physician." He turns back towards Jagos.
"Whenever you are ready to set off.....Make for Orion Station with all due haste."

Jean stepped forward toward Kaiyan and flashed him a bright smile. "Great, I'll take you to him!" she offered as she stepped toward the corridor and waited for him to follow. The woman was quite interested about Kaiyan, and being a person who enjoyed learning, she was eager to learn more about the Varanus and his race.

Jagos nodded at Kaiyan and said, "Got it, once all is said and done, we'll make way for Orion Station!"

He gestured to Jean and said, "I'll be in the cockpit. You just get our friend to Dr. Olander."

Jagos disappeared through the door, leaving Kaiyan alone with Jean.

Once Kaiyan followed her, she would take him back through the corridor and through the door that stood right beside the staircase that led down into the engine room. There they would enter the first door on the left where they would enter a white room containing medical equipment and a healing pod. Staffan Olander, the crew medic, would also be there. He was a slender man with clean black hair who also wore a pair of goggles that enabled him to quickly identify injuries on his patients.

_____

In the cockpit, Jagos placed himself in the pilot's seat. He flipped a switch and different colored lights came to life around him. He watched the light green fuel gauge for a moment as it read, "97%". Nearly there.

He navigated his cockpit's HUD until it displayed the bounties, all that were collected over the course of his career. A satisfied glance was given to his most recent capture, a drug lord named Gerrard Styles, or Gyro as he was nicknamed.

His hand entered the bag he took from the fast food restaurant and removed the burger from it. His eyes mulled over it, both his body and brain were telling him to eat it right away. Although Kaiyan told him that he needed to get to Orion Station as soon as possible, Jagos was certain that the reptile wouldn't mind if he had a few seconds of leisure time. He began to chow down on his lunch, determined to enjoy every second of it.

Kaiyan hesitated as he saw the doctor, sighing deeply as he entered the clinic.

The clear white room had various medical equipment, some seemed familiar to the reptilian but medical science was not really his strong point and neither was his experience with these paragons of health, while he did get in some scuffles that was too grievous for his natural regeneration alone to handle,he relied mostly upon personal medical staff he knew some being former Biocorps field troopers he remained in contact with even after his self-imposed exile. However he was never treated by someone he did not know, someone he never fought with and forged a bond of trust and there was also the fact that this doctor unlike the others that served him previously, was Human.

Human hands have never treated him before and that caused him to doubt but he could not ignore the slow and consistent bleeding coming from his cuts that while being slowly healed, was causing him to lose vital blood. He did not want to fall into shock or require a blood transfusion,he wondered if Varanus-blood was even stocked across hospitals across the galaxy.

He walked towards the doctor and bowed his horned head.

"Greetings healer."

Staffan eyed the wounded Varanus up and down for a moment. Then he responded, "Healer? I've been called a medic or Doc, but I guess the term 'healer' is popular with your race."

"Staffan, he's in bad shape, can't you fix him up?" Jean asked as she gazed at Kaiyan's cuts.

"Don't worry Jean," Staffan said as he rose from his chair and smiled, "Anyway, greetings sir, name's Dr. Olander, I'll be your doctor today. Now lets take a look at you."

Staffan takes a moment to inspect and analyze the Varanus's wounds. He uses his goggles to assist him in the analysis. Physically, bandages would need to be applied to keep in the blood to allow for the reptile's wounds to heal more easily.

"I've heard that you Varanus guys are great fighters, but how skilled are they in particular?" Jean asks Kaiyan, hoping to shift his attention away from his injuries while Staffan finishes up his analysis.

______

In the cockpit, Jagos is thoroughly enjoying his burger when he sees that the fuel gauge is at 99%. The ship was nearly topped off. He wondered if he could finish up his burger at the same time as the crew who was fueling the ship.

Unfortunately, he was a couple seconds late as a cheerful beeping sound chirped throughout the cockpit. The fuel indicator blinked at a 100% and the large tube was being removed from the Rebel Scorcher. The crew operating the tube gave Jagos a thumbs up and he nodded, setting down his food wrapper on the floor.

He requested permission to depart the station and once he got it he powered up the engines and the ship lifted off of the ground. Far above a hatch opened and Jagos began to ascend towards the vacuum of space.

"Ah yes excuse me....I was not sure of the appropriate title...Or is it a rank?." He pondered while Staffan observed his wounds using his rather unique goggles. Kaiyan took notice of this strange ocular device and wanted to ask what it does but was cut short by another question from the girl who promptly shifted his attention to her.

"Quite skilled.....Those of our youth who choose to study the path of warriors need to pass their maturity hunt at the age of....." He pondered the years to human standard. "Ten?....Yes ten years...Should they pass by slaying some creature they would be selected as 'argonites' or....recruits...as you would call it where they begin their real training under the Sect of Armaros as with all in the warrior caste since....Well as long as I can remember. In the 3 years of bounty hunting I have come across many great warriors from many..many races. The deadly grind of Orc beserker axes.....The sharp shooters of Elvenkind....Humans as crafty as they are guile....Angels....Demons.....Even the twisting magics of the fey.....They all have something to bring to this great game.....So while they may lack the discipline or training so common among my kind,it still hasn't stopped them from nearly bringing my end....Luckily our flesh tends to mend itself.....Albeit sometimes it can be a danger on it's own." He pauses....Looking off past Jean before returning his rounded gaze with a smile. "What of you....." He also turns to the doctor. "And you....What tale bound yours to this crew?"

"I'm not a military doctor, so it would just be a title," Staffan replied as he continued to evaluate Kaiyan's condition, "Well, I don't see any broken bones or internal bleeding, so that's good news.  And while your species' physiology allows you to regenerate tissue naturally this spray I have should speed up the process."

He reached behind him and pulled open a cabinet, taking out a white spray can titled, "FIRST AID SPRAY".  The doctor applied the healing agent to Kaiyan's cuts and bruises, and while there was a brief sting the Varanus could feel his wounds close up faster along with a cool feeling wherever he was sprayed.

Jean listened to Kaiyan's explanation with her full attention.  When he brought up the Orcs she thought of Nev with his machete and axe.  Once Kaiyan finished she said, "Wow, you guys have every right to be called seasoned warriors."

When he asked her about how she joined the crew of the Rebel Scorcher, Jean felt her body lose weight from a combination of embarrassment and guilt.  An uncomfortable hand rubbed the back of her head and she chuckled nervously.

"Well," the woman began, "I come from a poor background.  My family had to work as hard as they could so that I could get myself a higher education along with a degree in Space Engineering.  After I graduated I found work on a mining ship and helped maintain its engines for a time.  Uhhh....and then after that I worked several odd jobs around the galaxy and Jagos showed up with an offer to join his crew.  Since then we work together on collecting bounties and I use much of my cut from the rewards to send to my family so that they can stay under a roof.  This job has also given me a great opportunity to see and learn about many things that this galaxy has to offer as my time in college had done."

Jean ended her story with a bright smile, but there is a sense that she left out some details, particularly those involving her time on the mining ship.

"You could give her a one thousand page encyclopedia and she'd mull over it for hours without ever getting bored," Staffan muttered with a scoff, earning him an irritated glare from Jean.

"As for me," Staffan began, "Used to work on a science vessel that was tasked with collecting data from the unknown regions of space.  All was well until we got attacked by ships from an enemy faction.  I barely managed to get to an escape pod and since this was uncharted territory I didn't want to activate a distress beacon out of fear of attracting unfriendly forces."

He took a deep breath and continued, "I thought that was it for me, but then I was found and rescued by these mages who took me back to their planet and trained me in the ways of ice magic.  After several years I became skilled enough and I soon departed the planet.  I don't know how, and I don't know why, but I eventually found myself seated on a parking bench on another planet.  That was when Jagos came up to me and asked me if I wanted to become his crew's medic.  I said 'Yes', and here I am keeping this motley crew alive."

"So long as your ego isn't damaged," Jean mumbled with a soft snicker, getting a scowl from Staffan as he continued to heal up Kaiyan.

Jean grew concerned and asked Kaiyan, "You mentioned that your healing factor could be a threat to you?  What do you mean by that?"

"I think an example for you would be that if a Varanus got hit by shrapnel from say a fragmentation device the natural healing ability could make that difficult to remove as the pieces would become trapped within the body and infect it," Staffan suggested.

Jagos ascended out of the hatch and flew clear of the port where a small cargo vessel was about to make entry.  He pressed a blue button on his console and a clearly defined star chart of the galaxy appeared on his cockpit HUD.

Coordinates for Orion Station were entered and it soon appeared on the map as a pink blip.  According to the map it would take five jumps to get there.  Jagos sighed and activated his ship's short range FTL drive.  "Hope we don't run into trouble," he muttered as the Rebel Scorcher completed the first jump.

When it exited hyperspace Jagos brought up a smaller holomap of the current sector they were in.  The large powder blue circle to the far right of the ship indicated a gas giant.  There was a smaller grey circle that told Jagos that there was a moon orbiting it.  A small group of white blips passing the gas giant on the left showed neutral vessels.  A quick detailed scan showed Jagos that there were three cargo ships  being escorted by a cruiser and a fighter squadron and that they all belonged to a corporation.

A tiny green rectangle appeared at the top of the HUD telling Jagos that the Rebel Scorcher was being scanned by the cruiser, but also that no weapons were drawn. Otherwise the white blips would be flashing red.  Calm movement was expected between them as Jagos thrusted the ship forward to the next jump point.
