Previously
A deadly virus affecting both organics and robotics swept the northern sectors of the Galaxy, sparking a war between the afflicted and the remaining factions. After nearly a year of defensive battles and co-ordinated operations, the war finally ended at the Battle of Ruin. The end of the war saw increased relations between the GSU, Imperium and Santori as they all agreed on a two year ceasefire to mend the damages caused by the crisis.

After these two years the factions signed the Santori Accords, an agreement proclaiming their united efforts to uphold Celestial law, including the protection of innocent life in case of another galactic threat. Following this meeting the Highrock Clans decided to join the Santori Protectorate, expanding their territory by almost double.

Current Events
The Reich, a returning faction of magic-haters, resurface and initiate a purge of the planet Ordriey, destroying it entirely in the process. This event has made all of the Major Factions uneasy, even though each of them has bigger concerns of their own. Not only are there issues for these powers to deal with, but more factions are rising from the ashes of the Helix War, populating the galaxy once again.

Meanwhile, the Celestial Architect Sam'anar has discovered a way to reverse large parts of the Convergence, sending back many of the planets it had brought into the galaxy. Whilst this move has saved many from unwanted threats, it has also shifted the layout of the galaxy drastically. Because of this, new star-charts have been drawn out with Hyperlanes, allowing them to show the quickest and safest routes between planets.

Xu'La. The heart of the Imperial navy. The lifeblood of the Imperium's control. The home of the Imperial fleets. A bastion to what the Imperium stood for. Treachery. Tolerance of evil. Lies, and slander, and propaganda. And today, it would fall. Flannagan stood aboard his flagship frigate, the IRS Legacy. Around the ship, six more frigates and ten corvettes floated, with eight tubes of missiles each.

They had received information about how to get withing weapons range of the Xu'La fleet without being detected, from a man who Flannagan did not bother remembering the name of. They were close, within range of the Reich's missiles, but far enough away that they could jump out before major retaliation.

The thing that stood out to him was how quiet it was. Before, the Reich arrived with trumpets and grandeur, announcing to the galaxy that they would be saved at last from the tyranny of the mages. The galaxy didn't want to be saved, and the Reich died just as spectacularly, Guerre falling to Helix.

Now though, now was the beginning of a new era. Their goal was no longer glorious to Flannagan, it was a grim truth. Magic had to be removed from the galaxy, even if they had to kill non-mages to do it. That was his purpose.

"Pick your targets. I want an even spread. For those of you who don't remember, you are targeting their flagship, their shipyards, and the naval academy on the surface. Do what you must."

The planet before them had an array of space stations aligned as part of some larger complex structure, the Imperial fleet was station around these station that acted as ports while others refueled the mighty ships of the Starfleet and it's waves of crew would enjoy the time off on the recreational sections of the space stations. It housed many marines, naval crewmen and civilian workers as well as the families of the naval personnel who took the time to visit them before their deployment once more. For First Lieutenant James Olmar of the INS Gloria, one of the greatest battleships of the 2nd Fleet, today was special. He entered the visitor's halls and almost immediately was beset with a sudden nudge against his legs as his 5 year old daughter struggled to wrap her arms around his legs. James smiled as he lowered himself to pick her up with a heartfelt laughter. With daughter carried in his left arm he pulled out his right towards his wife to hug her,the two embraced exchanging warm words among kisses....

Engineer Krax was one of the many Varanus tasked with maintaining the station dockyards,he and Fee'zak were close friends having both graduated from the Xu'la Naval Engineering Academy, between the hull work done on ships in the dry dock they enjoyed sitting in the break room, watching the passing ships on the viewport that provided holographic view of the space right outside the room, they enjoyed trying to keep record of the passing ships and taking bets on how many times it would pass on a weekly basis.

"There goes the 'Uriel'"

"That's twice today."

"Must be some sort of transfer."

"And there goes the 'Lar'Xz'."

"Ah looks new...Probably it's first week."

Krax would stop and begin to zoom the port towards several ships that was approaching the station, however they did not have signatures....They did not appear in the database.

"That is strange....Look at this"

"Probably new ships on maneuvering." Fee'Zak reassured him.

"Yeah but this close to the shipyards?"

The INS Victory stood at the heart of the yard, the Staradmiral's flagship was in the middle of a maintenance check, having been engaged in combat with several pirate cruisers a few days ago. Despite their decisive victory and the glory of cleansing the pirate raiders of the Gargon subsector the Staradmiral was worried over the recent reports of insurgent activity. He called a meeting between the Lord-Admiralty on his flagship to discuss a solution in weeding out the insurgents before they could do any real harm. The flagship's crew detected several unidentified ships approaching thanks to the flagship's experimental radar array. One of the ensigns contacted the ships.

"Attention...Break formation and clear off. This sector is restricted.....Who is your commanding officer?" An gritted voice demanded.

Flannagan took a breath as the Imperium reached out, ordering to identify themselves. Flannagan snorted. He decided to humor them. "We are you death, your destruction, your silent retribution. Now, die." he said. He turned to his First Officer. "Inquisitor, fire."

Across the fleet, missile tubes opened. Over a hundred launched at once, breaking off like a trident, an even number speeding towards each target. Already, the troops prepared a second volley, but Flannagan had order to retreat as soon as the targets were confirmed defeated. He prepared to give the command, watching the white trails of gas trail out from the missiles.

Towards the planet, several dozen missiles began a suicidal nosedive through the atmosphere, on final light show for the denizens of the academy, their deaths speeding towards them. Towards the shipyards, another several dozen flew true, in a beeline towards the orbital structures. Those on board would likely never see their deaths coming.

The final set of missiles, complete with a nuclear warhead, soared upwards, well above the structures and fleets, before arcing forwards, entering a lethal velocity towards the Admiral's flagship. "This is for your sins upon the universe. Ní dhéanfaidh teisteoirí riail." he said, speaking the language of his ancestry. Translated, it meant 'Tyrants would never rule', and he was confident that it held true, even as he watched the missiles reach critical proximity.

The skyline of Xu'la was a bright sunny day,the city below was as busy as always. Seas of citizens roamed across the vast expanse of plazas and public gardens as they hurried across and to their homes and jobs, accompanied by family and friends, colleges and associates. The home to the Naval administration with the towering Naval academy at the heart of it all.

Thousands of young men and children were enrolled here, their ambitions reaching as high as the academy central tower that pierced the clouds above. Human children enrolled in the academy's smaller primary education section played in the garden grounds alongside Varanus hatchlings as they played trivial games of jolly with the older Elven kids. The Dwarven headmaster who was as small as some of the children as he shooed them to class. They all stopped as a thunderous crackle roared from the skies, followed by several ships shooting past the garden above. The children similatiously expressed excitement and "Woah" as this is a sight not usually seen. No Imperial ship may fly this close to the academy at least at that speed. Before the Dwarf headmaster could raise his voice to call order, another crackle followed with another and another as the academy shook and crumbled in smoke and fire.

---

The flagship ensign immediately reacted as the missiles fired. "Raise shiel..." However before they could the missiles crashed into the surrounding port causing a sea of debris to come crashing down on the flagship,it's shielding overwhelmed by the stress as explosions ruptured across the hull.

The flagship war-room was quickly evacuated as the Lord-Admiralty were quickly escorted to shielded droppods, however half of the hierarchy was lost in the explosions that ruptured the rooms across the ship. The Staradmiral refused to leave his ship while his men were aboard standing at the drop-pod entrance. Despite the insistence of his close friend Ensign Johannes Losen to escape the Admiral refused stating. "That he would not set off this ship unti-" His words were cut short as he was punched and pushed into the droppod by the ensign.

The Staradmiral regained posture and clawed at the door demanding that the ensign open it.

Closing the door to the pod the ensign saluted. "Sorry sir....But you can reprimand me once you reach the planet."

The pod fired and the small glass window where the ensign stood became smaller as the pod flew towards the planet....The flagship erupted into a fireball of flame as the reactors imploded unto itself.

---

Almost as instantly as the alarms across the spaceport rang, explosions erupted across the visitor's hall. James was flung across the hall as he blacked out.

Flannagan's breath caught in his throat as the stars glowed with the light of the explosions. Is was so glorious, he waited to give the order to retreat. His First officer looked at him. "Sir, their fleet is in disarray. They're too disorganized to launch a proper counter attack." he said. Flannagan thought for a moment, weighing his options in his mind.

While his orders stated to retreat s soon as destruction was guaranteed, the opportunity of demolishing the Imperial fleet as well was a tempting thing. He turned to his first officer. "What is the status of our targets?"

"Serious damage throughout the shipyards, the Flagship is cripple with chain reactions still going, and the sensors can't pierce the smoke above the naval academy." he said, looking at the screen before him. Flannagan hesitated.

"Fire another barrage at the academy, and the rest at the Imperial fleet." he said. "Take out the communications if you can." he said. "Leave nothing standing. We will make our mark upon history." he said. The first officer nodded, and the order went out.

Across the Reich fleet, missile tube opened again, waiting for Flannagan's order. He waited for a moment, then two, before speaking.

"Fire."

Another barrage of torpedoes carried their deadly approach to the disarrayed fleet. More then half of the Capital Fleet was present alongside retinues of the Lord Admiralty, the true core of the Imperial Starfleet stood under attack by a force they could not detect. Unable to react the ships commodores took action.

They traced the flightpaths of the torpedoes and activated their Point defense systems, attempting to destroy the torpedoes before turning their weapons to fire on the sector they expected the enemy to hide in. An wall of kinetic rounds and lasers shot into space while fighter craft poured from the carrier vessels to reinforce the line all to attempt to minimize the damage.

Smoke and fire engulfed the academic district,as did the screams of the people caught in the crossfire. Steel crashed down unto the cracked stone of the academy steps, people scrambled past the pod either running from the raging fire that grows within the academy or towards it hoping to save those still trapped within. Both Citizen and soldier swarmed across the city frantically trying to make sense of it all. The central tower of the academy cracked as it broke loose and debris came crashing down on the steps and the entrance. The civilians at the pod rushed to open it and pull the reptilian from it's interior, running down the steps at full pace shortly before the pod was buried under stone and steel.

As a cloud of smoke and ash blinded the group they rushed towards a nearby building that provided refuge, they could still hear the screams and explosions over their heaving coughs and rage filled curses. The Admiral regained his senses and pushed past his rescuers back into the streets that rained soot. The reptilian could smell fire and blood.....As he limped towards the steps he saw a familiar sight.....An bloodied hand sticked out of the debris, not one of a man or soldier....But that of a human child.

He felt weak as he fell to his knees, repressing the primal anger that threatened to overwhelm him as he brooded in sorrow and silence.

James awoke to the sound of the evacuation alarm his instincts kicked in as he struggled to get to his feet. But as he soon realized he found himself pinned to the floor as a steel rod was embedded through his right kneecap. He soon felt the pain that gave way to tears, his vision blurred as he tried to identify the figures broken and twisted next to him....

"No..." He said weakly as he recognized the pale and bloodied faces.... "Not them...."

He struggled against the rod that pinned him down, but with each passing second his struggle grew weaker and weaker as his vision darkened into pure blackness.

His thoughts gave way to a single phrase. "But why...." As he slipped into death.

They had stayed too long. The Imperial Fleet had found them. Flannagan gave the order to retreat. "All hands, brace for hyperspace jump on my mark." he said. They all knew their next target- Their old enemy, the Immortals. Gunfire and laser fire pinged and burned at the hulls of the ships, but at this range, the Imperials were missing the accuracy they needed to hit vital systems.

"Three. Two. One. Mark." he said, and the ships jumped away.

In their wake, they left an escape pod, and inside, two men. They were dressed in pirate garb, armed with simple handguns, and covered in dirt , grime, and filth. One of them pushed a button, and a beacon went out to the surviving navy. It as a voice.

"This is Rachel Karker. I as a gunner on the ships that just attacked. We didn't know we were hitting civilian targets. I know where they're going next. In return, I want to help stop them." she said. Her voice carried sincerity, but her motives did not.

She, with the other man in the pod, were to delay the Imperium as much as possible without getting caught. Tell them where and when the fleet would strike, but delay the information enough for the Imperium to be left in the wake of chaos, leading the galaxy to believe they're in cahoots.

The attackers broke off, their ships well out of range for the Imperial forces to really hit vital systems, within seconds the faint signatures of the vessels dissapeared leaving behind an warp signature confirming that they jumped out of the system....and in their wake floated a single unprotected escape pod,it's open signal telling a story that made the naval officers hiss and spit their disgust.

Fighter craft secured a set diameter around the pod allowing one of the drop ships to attach mag-locks and carry the pod towards the capital fleet. While the Imperial Navy scrambled to make sense of the attack and reestablish the chain of command, the pod was taken directly to the planet following a change of orders. The Imperials did not reply to the signal nor did they show any intent of cooperation with Rachel. All they could do is watch as the Imperials took their pod into the city, flying in the skies above the smoke and ruin, they passed the academy which was scattered and broken, hundreds of medical drop ships rushing the wounded students, staff and surrounding inhabitants to the nearby hospitals and care centres with the naval forces own medical corps establishing field hospitals and search parties to scour the ruins.

The ships passed the complex system that was known as the planetary prison into a courtyard next to it,the drop ship lowered and released the escape pod which landed on the concrete-like floor slabs with a thump.Within seconds Imperial soldiers surrounded the pod while two engineers carrying cutters began to burn through the doors. As the doors fell open the Imperial troops entered shouting commands and orders, before they butted both Rachel and the man with their weapons causing them to lose consciousness.

When they awoke they found themselves chained to chairs in a dark room, there was the faint smell of rotten eggs in the air and Rachel could feel blood pooling from the cuts in her head.

"Seven hundred and forty two" An mechanized voice said in the darkness.

Rachel was visibly confused and the voice replied upon that.

"That was the amount of civilians killed...Not even counting the military deaths.....97% of them all under-aged students at the academy." The voice said coming closer with each word.

In the faint light Rachel could see the metallic glimmer of what appeared to be a Varanus wearing a metal mask, but beyond the mask it was impossible to make out the rest of it's figure.

"You should be grateful....The Staradmiral who survived your attack has ordered your death....I can only delay his vengeance for so long....You were a gunner that was unaware that your attack would harm civilian targets.....You and I both know that story is nothing short of an lie.......You want to stop your comrade in arms?.......Tell me first why?"

The other man tied up next to her was unconscious, droplets of blood dripped from his nose.

The Reichswoman thought carefully about her words, staring up at the Varanus with an expression of faux shock at the statistics stated to her. “That’s.. horrible,” she managed to mutter, “But I was never told we were attacking a place full of children. I was told we were hitting an insurgent outpost. I swear, my bosses never told me it was an Imperial academy! They just paid me to shoot! Please! You’ve gotta believe me!”

While the tears streamed down her beaten face, Rachel remembered what the Grand Inquisitor Krieg had told her. Do not let your enemy know of your truthful master. Instead, sway them off course.

“I...” she spoke again, “There was a nav-chart on the ship, and it listed a course through Xu’La.. to Turun... to Vestura,” she spoke the last name, Th name of a commercial world within the Golden Syndicate, with heavy sincerity. She could say little more, simply staring at the reptilian with exasperated breaths.
