A few seconds after they stepped through the portal, Sebastian alongside Natasha, Valeryie, Tagon and Dakora found themselves standing upon the surface of Phoenixspire. Although... it was completely different from what anyone would remember it.
Buildings had sustained heavy structural damage, some having collapsed entirely even. The streets mere a mess of corpses of both the planet's residents and the demonic creatures that had invaded it.
Fires burned away at whatever or whoever had been unfortunate to catch themselves alight during the chaos and the few that had survived were scurrying here and there, trying mostly in vain to find people that may have survived and lifting rubble off corpses in order to carry them away.
"My God..." Sebastian said, in complete shock.
"It's so much worse than... than Chiron. And Nightblood." Natasha said, her tone matching his. Sebastian gazed past all the buildings and looked at the main city's castle. Where Jaya resided. From this distance he could still see that the castle itself had received some damage in the fight, though it was thankfully standing still.
"Come on," Sebastian ushered everyone as he began to walk through the corpse-strewn streets towards the castle. "We need to find Jaya."

It was a particularly rainy day on Nightblood. Sky was covered in a layer of grey, blocking out most of the sun's rays which barely permeated the thick layer and casted a dull glow over the Vampire Queen's palace and her surrounding kingdom.
The light drizzle of rain turned into a full-on downpour later when the sun set. It was at this time that the residents returned to their homes in order to rest and take shelter from the stormy weather outside. However not even this could prepare them for what was coming.
A few miles outside the city, a large red portal suddenly appeared, spiralling into a massive size that casted a red glow around it that could be seen from the city if anyone was around to see it. Unfortunately, there weren't many who were out at this time, and thus no one to warn the residents of what was coming.
Out of the portal gushed an entire armada of demonic creatures. These creatures supported red and black coloured flesh, were 6ft tall each and had four arms. All six limbs featured razor-sharp claws at the end of each six digit-hands. Their eel-like heads had two yellow slits where their eyes were and their mouths were circular maws of razor-sharp, needle-like teeth.
They charged out of the portal in their hundreds of thousands. Each and every single one of them headed right towards the city. At first, no one knew anything. Then came the rumbling of footsteps as the armada drew nearer and nearer. Finally, the rumbling became too violent to ignore and some residents left their homes to investigate the source.
By then it was already too late. The creatures had already invaded the city, and chaos ensued. Vampires were being slaughtered left and right, their homes being broken into and their families being massacred. The streets and houses became red with blood as some tried to flee in vain, while those who tried to fight were swiftly ripped to pieces. The creatures all seemed to have one main destination however: the palace.

Aside from the small chatter between the marines in the troop bay of the drop ship, the only sound that could be heard was the faint hum of the craft's engines.
Sebastian glanced at his team mates. Natasha sat hunched over, her head hung down and her hands clasped in front of her, with the elbows resting on her knees. Valeryie sat straigjt, but she also had her head drooped a bit. No one said anything.
The silence was discomforting, but Sebastian knew what was going on in their heads. The same thing that was going through his. It had only been two weeks since Haven, and they were all still struggling to cope with what had happened on that forsaken planet. Aaron, Bob, Bruce... Kitty. All gone. Along with hundreds, if not thousands of unnamed marine troops that he hadn't known who had also perished on that world. The UEG was still recovering from the mass loss of military hardware, equipment and troop quantity. The Generation II Space Marines were so few in number now, around 30 now if he remembered correctly.
Aaron was the last of the Generation I Space Marines. And now he was gone. The thought of Aaron caused Sebastian to feel an ache in his chest. He looked up to that man. He was his hero. All of the Space Marines were his heroes but Aaron-157 was a legend among them. The last surviving one. Sebastian remembered what he saw when he left the core room. After they went back through the portal and found themselves in the Master Terminus building again.
Piles of Triumverate corpses littered the area. Either shredded apart by bullets or burnt to crisp by plasma, or incinerated by explosions. And in the midst of it all, Sebastian recognised his armour. Aaron's corpse lay there, and his condition almost caused Sebastian to throw up. His armour was a mess. Plating had been shot or melted away by plasma fire, multiple holes had breached the armour and in sections his undersuit had been torn through. Blood had leaked from these breaches, though most of it had now dried up. Some bits of molten titanium alloy from the melted armour also leaked into some of the other gaps and inadvertently cauterized some of his wounds, though in doing so damaged his flesh further and melted it down to the bone. His helmet was mostly shattered and one of his eyes could be seen, wide open but devoid of life.
Aaron's bionic leg replacement had also fallen off and his arm replacement was a mangled mess. Sebastian also saw the puncture wound in his throat - the final blow dealt to him which caused him to flatline. That image of him laying there stuck with Sebastian. He'd sometimes see it in his nightmares, which made sleep next to impossible.
Valeryie had passed out from her injuries by then, but she was visibly shaken after the event. Natasha was silent, though Sebastian was sure that he heard her sobbing in her room a few times. Apone and Cartwright resigned. The Harbinger was destroyed. Its crew was dead. Captain Whitley was dead. The UDF fleet was crushed. The deathcries of thousands of people echoed in his mind. The scene of Bruce getting sliced in half flashed in his memory. The moment when Bob was impaled through his chest with a plasma sword flashed in his memory. It was too much to handle. Sebastian himself came close to resigning.
Though, then he remembered. Aaron had chosen him to lead Fireteam Aqua. Before he died, Aaron for some reason, felt that he was the best suited candidate, despite him being the newest member on the team. Could it be that Aaron saw something in him that he didn't? Regardless, the very fact that Aaron promoted him of all people told Sebastian that resigning now would be to disgrace one of Aaron's final wishes. He would honour Aaron's memory, and he would lead the team whatever it took. Perhaps he did not feel ready, but he wouldn't let Aaron down. Not ever.
Though a small part of him felt that he would never amount to what Aaron was, that he would be a disappointment to him in the end. And it was this thought that unnerved him the most.
